Standby UDP push

media.push.udp_standby

A standby push listens to its multicast group. It sends no data while another sender is heard. After the group stays silent for the takeover window, Sapsan starts sending; hearing another sender again stops delivery. Its own packets do not count as another sender.

Configuration

Apply this stream configuration through central. delivery is the push key in configuration and statistics.

streams:
- name: tv1
  inputs:
  - udp: {host: 239.0.0.1, port: 5000}
  pushes:
    delivery:
      udp:
        host: 239.1.1.1
        port: 5500
        interface: eth0
        standby:
          takeover_ms: 1000

standby: {} uses a 1000 ms window. takeover_ms is a positive integer in milliseconds; zero is invalid. Without standby, the push sends continuously. Give multiple standby senders different windows: a shorter window takes priority when they wait at the same time.

Transport

UDP multicast only; unicast is rejected. The standby server must receive the same group and port: takeover depends on hearing a sender, without coordination through central.

Supported codecs

  • H.264
  • HEVC
  • AV1
  • JPEG 2000
  • MPEG-2 Video
  • AAC
  • AC-3
  • E-AC-3
  • MPEG Audio
  • SMPTE 302M

These codecs can be remuxed from already encoded tracks into MPEG-TS; the push itself does not transcode them. AAC is carried with ADTS. Codec support in fMP4 or HLS does not imply the same support in this output.

AV1 is announced as a private stream with the AV01 registration; the receiver must support this specific packaging. Opus is not included in the verified codec set for this output: its presence in the input path does not establish complete output signaling and packaging of Opus in MPEG-TS.

RTP here carries MPEG-TS packets, rather than separate codec-specific RTP streams.
