Exciting update: Flussonic Media Server now supports NDI ingest
In the latest update of Flussonic Media Server 24.08, the ability to ingest NDI signals has been introduced. Receive high-quality video over a local network for professional purposes: ingesting from cameras, production, and high-quality video delivery.
Flussonic Media Server can ingest NDI video streams and distribute them with the highest possible quality using SRT, M4S, WebRTC, and other protocols.
What is NDI?
NDI (Network Device Interface) is a protocol for transmitting audio and video over an IP network without quality loss. NDI devices for receiving and transmitting signals can automatically identify each other on the local network and deliver high-quality video with minimal latency and high frame rates in real-time.
In networks with limited bandwidth, you can use the NDI HX variant with a higher level of compression.
Flussonic Media Server can ingest all existing NDI formats:
Format |
Quality |
Bandwidth at 1080p60 |
Latency |
Compression |
NDI High Bandwidth |
Almost lossless |
~ 130 Mbps |
Ultra low |
SpeedHQ (proprietary codec based on MPEG-2) |
NDI HX2 |
No visible compression artifacts |
H.264: ~ 16 Mbps / H.265: ~ 11 Mbps |
Very low — under 150ms average |
AVC (H.264) and HEVC (H.265) |
NDI HX3 |
No visible compression artifacts |
H.264: ~ 62 Mbps / H.265: ~ 50 Mbps |
Ultra low — under 100ms on average |
AVC (H.264) and HEVC (H.265) |
Who Can Use NDI?
Most modern switchers, PTZ cameras, and other professional video equipment support the NDI protocol. It is used by TV studios, production teams, broadcast organizers, and anyone who professionally creates video content.
Laying twisted pair cables of any length is usually simpler and cheaper than SDI cables. Therefore, NDI today serves as an alternative to the SDI protocol and is changing the paradigm of media production.
